Student Engagement & Wellbeing

Students can reach their full educational potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and when there is a positive school culture to engage and support them in their learning. At Roxburgh Rise Primary School we foster caring relationships which instil a sense of belonging. Students are supported by classroom teachers and every grade level is supported by a Teaching and Learning Leader for both educational and wellbeing support. Students are also supported by our psychologist and Student Wellbeing Officer.

Respectful, caring relationships are also fostered between students. Our student leaders, peer mediators and buddies model respect, inclusiveness, support and excellence when interacting with other students. We teach our students how to be resilient and provide opportunities for them to feel empowered in student-led projects. Our school community works hard to ensure our school is a happy, vibrant and engaging place.

Kids Matter

Roxburgh Rise Primary School is a Kids Matter school. We implement strategies that promote a positive community; founded on respectful relationships and a sense of belonging and inclusion. The school promotes:

  • social and emotional learning (including evidence-based social and emotional learning programs)
  • working authentically with parents, carers and families
  • support for students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties

FISH! Philosophy

The FISH! Philosophy provides guidance for bringing joy and passion to our school. We encourage students and teachers to follow these four ideas to build supportive relationships:

  • Be There
  • Make Their Day
  • Choose Your Attitude
  • Play

Visitors to our school remark upon our positive, enthusiastic and focused school culture. The FISH! Philosophy displays around our school provide a visual reminder of our responsibility to others.

You Can Do It

You Can Do It is a school-wide social and emotional program. We teach students the skills they need to acquire in order to be successful in school, experience wellbeing, and have positive relationships. Each term, every class focuses on one of the five keys of YCDI Education.

  • Confidence
  • Persistence
  • Organisation
  • Getting Along, and
  • Resilience

These foundations are taught every Monday morning, as well as other skills for lifelong learning, such as mindfulness, self-regulation and teamwork.
